[코로나] 미국정부 화이자 코노나백신의 추가 복용량 거절 왜?

Pfizer board member and former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC's "Squawk Box" that the U.S. government turned down additional doses of Pfizer's vaccine as recently as November 2020.

The U.S. government turned down an offer to secure more doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine in November, company board member Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Monday.

화이자 이사회 임원이자 전 FDA 국장인 스캇 고틀립 박사는 미국이 2020년 11월 화이자 백신의 추가분을 거절했다고 밝혔다.

 

 

The Trump administration in July locked in a deal for 100 million doses if the vaccine proved safe and effective, with an option to purchase up to 500 million more. Pfizer has said it intends to ship 50 million vaccine doses this year, which would be enough to inoculate 25 million people because it requires two shots.

트럼프 정부는 7월에 1억개 분의 백신을 확보하였고 조건은 백신이 안전하고 효율적이어야 하며 추가로 5억 개 구매가 가능하다는 옵션이었다. 화이자는 올해 5천만 개의 백신을 공급할 것이며 한 사람당 2번 맞아야 하니 2천5백 명이 맞을 수 있는 양이다.

“There were multiple conversations with the U.S. government about taking more supply in the second quarter. The company wasn’t taken up on that offer, as recently as November,” Gottlieb said on “Squawk Box.” The vaccine from Pfizer and German partner BioNTech on Friday received emergency authorization from the Food and Drug Administration, and some Americans are likely to receive the first shots Monday.

Gottlieb, a former FDA chief under President Donald Trump, first indicated last week that the U.S. government had declined to exercise the option in its agreement with Pfizer for additional vaccine doses. He told CNBC that Pfizer offered the U.S. doses from its Michigan manufacturing plant for the second quarter of 2021. The company is already sending the U.S. all of its first-quarter supply from that plant, he said. Gottlieb, a CNBC contributor, said last week that the company’s overture to the government in November came after interim trial data was released showing the vaccine to be more than 90% effective in preventing Covid-19.

지난주 미국 정부는 화이자 백신 추가 확보 사항을 거절하기로 밝혔고, 

화이자는 미시간 공장의 백신은 2021년 2분기에 공급하기로 제안했다.

화이자는 1분기 공급의 모두를 미국에 공급하고 있다. 11월 화이자의 제안은 임상실험에서 데이터가 90% 이상 백신이 코로나를 예방한다는 결과 후의 일이다.

Pfizer has since entered into agreements with other countries for its second-quarter allotment of vaccine doses, Gottlieb said Monday. However, he expressed optimism that the company and the U.S. government will be able to strike a deal to acquire more doses.

화이자는 다른 나라들 고도 2분기 할당에 대한 게약 절차에 도립 하였다. 하지만 미국 정부와의 추가분에 대한 계약 성사에 긍정적인 반응을 보였다.

“I think they’re going to work this out. I think hopefully we’ll find a way to increase supply and be able to get the government what the government needs,” Gottlieb, who led the FDA from 2017 to 2019, said Monday. “This is an American company. We want to work with the U.S. government but this has been a challenging process because there have been multiple conversations happening as recently as November and now they’re coming back and wanting to restart those conversations when other commitments have been made in the interim.” The Department of Health and Human Services pushed back against Gottlieb’s initial remarks last week.

In a statement posted to Twitter on Dec. 8, HHS said that Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration’s vaccine development initiative, never turned down “an offer from Pfizer for any number of millions of doses having a firm delivery date and quantity.” “We remain confident that across our portfolio of multiple vaccines we will have enough doses for any American who wants a vaccine by the end of Q2 2021,” the HHS statement also said. The government has locked in vaccine doses from other companies, such as Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

2021년 2분기까지 미국 전체 국민이 백신 접종을 받을 수 있을 양을 확보할 것에 자신감을 보인 미국!

미국은 다른 회사인 모 더 나나 존즌앤존스에서도 백신을 확보하였다.

 

The FDA is set to meet later this week to review Moderna’s emergency use application, while J&J said last week it expects to be able to seek clearance from the agency for its vaccine in February. Pfizer’s chairman and CEO, Dr. Albert Bourla, echoed Gottlieb’s optimism on a potential deal, telling CNBC he believes the company and the U.S. government should be able to settle on an agreement for additional vaccine doses. Bourla said the government is seeking an additional 100 million doses from Pfizer.

미국 정부는 모더나의 응급승인을 검토하고 있고 화이자로부터 1억개분의 백신을 추가로 공급받는 것을 검토하고 있다.

 

미국정부는 백신 공급에 있어 한 회사에 독점권을 주는 것이 아니라 모더나, 존슨 앤 존슨 등 여러 회사들과의 계약으로 백신 공급의 안전한 공급망 확보와 가격경쟁구도를 만들어 미국 국민에 최대 유리한 딜을 찾고 있다.

 

항상 미국과 미국인을 보면 자국 최우선주의 정책을 보고 놀란다.

 

이런 것들이 주변국과 우방을 때로는 불편하게 하지만, 자국우선주의를 싫어하는 국민들은 없으니 국민들의 지원이 상당한 것은 쉽게 짐작이 가능하다.

 

그럼 올해 말까지 그리고 내년 1분기부터 2분기까지 코로나 백신을 어떤 회사가 얼마큼 공급을 하는지 지켜보자!
